OUR STORY

The Carver Kemp Neighborhood Association (CKNA) met in the cafeteria of Kemp Elementary School and sponsored presentations on topics pertinent to the community. The Association experienced a period of dormancy and the community and the neighborhood felt its absence. With the help and advice of previous members and the wisdom and knowledge of the past president, Carver-Kemp Neighborhood Association was re-organized in 2016 with a robust board of directors and a dedicated body of committed members. Our focus and scope is to help our neighbors, serve our community and contribute to the development of our city.

With the help and advice of the City of Bryan, input from the community and the sincere desire of past members to help our community, the CKNA is thriving and doing well. We are dedicated to the service of our community and to advancement of our city. We have made sincere efforts to collaborate with all city departments, other comparable organizations, churches and other public service groups. Membership is open to the public.

The Carver-Kemp Neighborhood Association works to ensure that the appropriate party addresses the issues that occur in our community as soon as possible. Topics addressed include neighborhood clean-up, stricter enforcement of city codes and ordinances, preservation of property values, efforts to help alleviate social problems and the enhanced communication and interaction with the city. Other topics are public school issues, aid for senior citizens, workforce training and the need to provide technology access to students in the area.

Carver-Kemp partners with various agencies to achieve their goals of addressing vital issues such as housing, employment, job training, veteran issues, childcare, education, plans for future development and many other topics that focus on the upkeep and success of the Neighborhood.

Presidents of the association have included Betty Hunter, Cedric Gilbert, Donald Adams and Raymond Arrington, who currently serves in this position.
